Admission to Practice in the U.S. Bankruptcy Court for the District of Maine
Attorneys Admitted in the State of Maine
To represent clients in the U.S. Bankruptcy Court for the District of Maine, an attorney licensed to practice in Maine must also be admitted to practice before the United States District Court for the District of Maine. Information regarding attorney admission procedures can be found on the District Court website under Application for Admission to Practice or by contacting the District Court at (207) 780-3356.
If you are already admitted to practice in the U.S. District Court for the District of Maine, you must: (1) complete the Attorney Registration Form for Electronic Filing, and (2) register in PACER for electronic filing privileges in the U.S. Bankruptcy Court for the District of Maine.
Admission Pro Hac Vice--Visiting Attorney
An attorney who is not a member of the bar of the U.S. District Court for the District of Maine may appear and practice in this Court after following the process detailed in Local Rule 9010-1(a)(2). Under this rule, an attorney who seeks to appear pro hac vice must associate with a member of the bar of this Court upon whom all process, notices and other papers may be served and who shall sign all papers filed with the Court and whose attendance at any proceeding may be required by the Court. This local counsel shall then file a Motion for Admission Pro Hac Vice, which must be accompanied by a completed Certification for Admission Proc Hac Vice (Local Form 8).
The event “Appear Pro Hac Vice” and can be found under the “Motions/Applications” category on ECF. No fee is required. Upon docketing of the Motion and Certification, the Clerk will examine the requesting attorney’s eligibility.
Once an attorney is admitted Pro Hac Vice, the attorney shall register in PACER for electronic filing privileges in the U.S. Bankruptcy Court for the District of Maine.
The Court may at any time for good cause and without hearing revoke the right of a visiting lawyer to practice. See D. Me. Local R. 83.1(c).
