The United States Bankruptcy Court for the District of Maine is committed to making reasonable accommodations to people who need them, including any individual who is disabled, pregnant, or nursing. These accommodations may include flexibility in the scheduling or conduct of trials or hearings, as well as a private space for nursing or pumping.
Individuals requesting an accommodation related to an appearance at a hearing or trial must contact the Court no fewer than five (5) business days in advance of when the accommodation is needed. When requesting an accommodation, please include the following information: the date the accommodation is needed, the name of the case or proceeding, and a reason for the accommodation.
Please note that the court currently only offers accommodations to active participants in a case and cannot provide accommodations to those observing hearings or trials. Accommodations that create a financial or administrative burden may not be granted. Additionally, the Court will not pay for personal services or equipment including a personal assistant, a lawyer, paralegal, hearing aids, eyeglasses, walkers or other devices.
